All are welcome to this beginner’s yoga class designed to release stress and tension from the body, develop strength, improve flexibility and increase lung capacity. Yoga becomes a contemplative meditation when it is practiced with the intention that the practice itself is prayer. With a meditative approach we will move into each stretch to come into stillness, release stress, focus on the breath, becoming present to the body as it stretches. It is through this process that not only physical relaxation is achieved, but also mental relaxation. This is a body mind experience in which the body and mind are joined as they move into stillness.
Class begins and ends contemplating scripture using different prayer practices which include Christian Meditation, Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, Guided Imagery, and Active Imagination with Scripture.
You will need to bring a yoga mat and/or beach towel. Please wear comfortable nonbinding clothing and plan on practicing in bare feet.
To attend a session first register online, then print and fill out the Exercise Instruction and Release Form, bring it and the class fee (cash or check made out to PARC). If you are unable to attend the entire session, register online and come when you can. The walk-in fee is $10 a class.
